News From The Great Beyond: Oakley Hall
Daytrotter describes Oakley Hall as "a six-piece with a backwoods mentality and a bluegrassy clutch on male-female harmonies—lacquered with psychedelia and campfire smoke, smothered in barbeque sauce and smelling like the freshness of the outdoors..."
Their second full-length CD is entitled Gypsum Strings, available on the Brah Records label, and now the band is preparing to head off on the road with Calexico and M. Ward. The tour starts Wednesday, Spetember 6th, in Pittsburgh, PA, with M. Ward and then shifts to opening dates for Calexico later in the month.
Courtney Harding of Bust Magazine wrote that Oakley Hall is "a true rarity... neither too cool for school nor too weird to be enjoyed." Meanwhile, David Fricke of Rolling Stone Magazine, commenting on the track "Cod-ine" wrote that Oakley Hall "...revive the song – and dose their own – with a purple-prairie flair both vintage and modern, country and urban, as if Wilco now had John Cale on viola and Lucinda Williams in the lineup."
Enough said. Check this band out.
